Meet Ashley Plyushko, CPA

Ashley Plyushko, CPA, took an uncommon path to the profession, beginning with degrees in history and political science before returning to school to pursue accounting. After earning her accounting degree from Colorado State University, she built a career defined by problem solving, adaptability, and a drive to improve the systems around her. Those experiences eventually led her to the Oklahoma Accountancy Board (OAB), where she has spent the past three years focused on modernizing processes and expanding outreach.

Over the last three years, Ashley has helped lead modernization and outreach efforts at the OAB, expanding communication with registrants, candidates, and students through webinars, educational outreach, and social media. Her work has also supported updates to licensure processes and candidate experience, reflecting her continued focus on making the profession stronger and more accessible.

What She Has to Say

OSCPA: Why did you decide to become a CPA? 

Plyushko: I have always sought to impact my community. This originally led to a college degree in history and political science; however, after realizing the need to combine passion and employment stability, I decided to return to school to become a CPA. It was a choice that I have never regretted. Becoming a CPA started me on a journey full of stories and adventures which continue even now.

OSCPA: What has been your proudest moment in your career so far? 

Plyushko: The OAB’s recent modernization and outreach initiatives are a source of pride and motivation for me. Over the past few years, we have been able to lower barriers to entry, increase outreach to potential CPAs, and update processes to improve public protection.  There is no better feeling than inspiring a potential CPA or helping a member of the public.

OSCPA: What do you hope to accomplish in your career? 

Plyushko: My hope is to make a lasting positive impact on those around me and my profession. As the accountancy world changes, there is always something new to explore and try. I hope to use my desire for continual improvement to its fullest potential in my professional and personal life. No one said that state government work must lack adventure. Keep reaching higher!
