IRS & OTC Provide Filing Relief for Six Oklahoma Counties
September 02, 2025
The IRS has announced relief measures for tax year 2024, and the Oklahoma Tax Commission has aligned with those changes to ease burdens on taxpayers in the following six designated counties:
- Cleveland County
- Creek County
- Lincoln County
- Oklahoma County
- Pawnee County
- Payne County
For taxpayers in these counties, the filing and payment deadline for all income tax returns has been extended to November 3, 2025. Notably, no extension filing is required to take advantage of this relief. For all other counties, regular filing deadlines remain in place.
Penalty and interest will not be assessed on late returns or late return/estimated payments for those within the identified counties.
The IRS has also extended the due dates for estimated payments for the first three quarters of 2025, which the Oklahoma Tax Commission will honor.
For taxpayers who have already paid penalties and interest under these circumstances, the Tax Commission is developing a process to issue refunds. Updates will be provided as soon as timing and details are available.
This relief is designed to provide meaningful support for impacted taxpayers and their advisors while ensuring compliance remains fair and consistent across the state. Learn more and access official guidance directly from the Oklahoma Tax Commission or view the OTC order here.
